Self-Guided Trails

Trail 1
Civic District Public Art Trail

In celebration of SG50, the Public Art Trust commissioned Singapore artists to come up with three ambitious, imaginative and meaningful public artworks for three prominent sites along the Jubilee Walk. The Jubilee Walk is a commemorative walking trail that winds through iconic locations within the Civic District and Marina Bay area.

The works were launched in November 2015 and they are a highlight of the Civic District Public Art Trail, which takes in some of the city's finest public art, including sculptures that remind the public of Singapore's history and heritage.

Trail 2
Kampong Glam Heritage Trail

Steeped in history, culture and memories, Kampong Glam is one of Singapore's most colourful districts. It was where the Malay royalty once resided, and where one of the most significant adn important mosques in the country, Masjid Sultan, is located. It was also where diverse communities such as the Javanese, Sumatrans, Baweanese, Banjarese, Arabs, Chinese and Indians once called home. Although Kampong Glam is no longer a residential area today, these communities have left their mark in different ways, from the buildings in the area and long-time businesses to vernacular place names. Discover this fascinating place today!

Trail 3
 Little India Heritage Trail

Ask any Singaporeans, and most would agree that Tekka Market is synonymous with Little India. But few would know that the name "Tekka", or "Zhujiao (竹脚)" in Mandarin, actually has Chinese origins. When translated, it means "bamboo clumps", alluding to the bamboo that once grew along Rochor Canal.

Few would also know that Little India, unlike its sister precincts of Chinatown and Kampong Glam, was never intended to be an area designated for Singapore's Indian community. Instead, it developed its identity organically over the years, establishing itself as a melting pot of diverse communities and cultures, all of which have co-existed since the precinct's early beginnings. Discover these lesser-known facts of Little India and more when you embark on this trail.
